[ it's not that nanami... is stupid. she's just careless, and when she sees a house made of candy in the middle of a creepy forest, of course she's cautious, but at the same time, plenty of people smarter than her have done silly things like lick things that extremely shouldn't be licked. the fact that it's in color makes it only more appealing, and so she does what any fool would do—she plucks one of the smaller, hard candies from a corner and pops it in her mouth.

and if your character is anywhere near her when this happens, there is a series of events that occurs. she turns, first, excited to report that it's safe— ]

[ and then, abruptly, her expression changes and suddenly there's sanjiegun drawn and ready to smack. ]
Hey!! What were you thinking, sneaking up on a lady like that?! Hyaaaah!

[ nanami, despite her small stature as a sixteen-year-old girl, has some incredible battle experience and is (mostly) unfazed by the thought of fighting a cockatrice. she's in the woods now with her chosen partner, and she can hear the creature pecking around and hissing as if to protect its territory.
