Shouto thinks he's being friendly with Minato, but they don't actually talk that often. It's interesting though, that their very close relationships seem to overlap. Because they're both naturally pretty quiet, Shouto doesn't exactly know what to do or say to him when they're just talking on their own. Unfortunately Shouto kind of needs somebody else to take the lead with friendship. It's still hard for him.

Val on the other hand has quietly decided that Minato is his responsibility. He's not like the teenagers he knows at home, but he is still a teenager and Val has the benefit of experience (questionable). They've bonded over promises and that's something near and dear to Val. He won't break it. As long as Minato is here, Val will stay. It's a promise and he's been bound to his words. Minato is also one of the people who knows a bit about Artina. That's honestly Val being vulnerable. He only does it around people he likes and considers his comrades.
