Test Drive Meme 2.

These are the mem’ries that last.
These are the mem’ries that will never pass.
And time waits for no one.
It’s gone in a flash.
And only the mem’ries will last.

Prompt 1:

he forest looms, uninviting and full of menace, an unwelcoming place for sure. Time to go explore! It isn't as though there's anywhere else to go, now that you've looked around the Town.

The trees whack at you with branches that have far too much mobility for normal trees, strange and mutated animals watch from the shadows and boughs, and there’s the constant, constant sense of being watched --

But eventually, nonetheless, you’ll come across a small house in the forest. It sticks out like a sore thumb, bright and colorful, which is probably the first warning that something is way off, and it’s...covered in candy. It’s a candy house! It looks delicious.

(It’s empty, too, not a single soul in it, without even furniture, but everything is otherwise edible and utterly delicious.)

But if you eat the candy? You’re going to have a terrible, overwhelming urge to do one of two things:

  • Fight the first person you see
  • Kiss the first person you see

Unfortunate.

Prompt 2:

he problem with a Town like this is that now that color is starting to return, bit by bit? You never really know when color’s going to come back -- or disappear. Maybe you’ve made a delightful, delicious sandwich from handmade bread and tomatoes and deer meat, all of which have color now… and then suddenly, when taking a bite, you get only the taste of ash and bread and tomato as the deer meat loses color.

Also, someone probably died for that color to fade away. Alarming!

Or maybe you’re walking along when suddenly your makeshift clothing is a hideous mix-match of colors; it had seemed fine when it was all grey and colorless!

Or perhaps, even worse, you’re walking out of a house when suddenly, the flowerbed in front of it has full color, bright and maybe a little blinding after so much monochrome. Damn those color mechanics.

Prompt 3:

he quest seems simple, on the Quest Post:

Quest 33:
Feed the Cockatrice.
Requirements: 2 of any color

Key word, of course, is seems. First, you have to find the cockatrice. Maybe grab someone to drag into the woods with you, since there needs to be at least two of you. Time to stomp through the woods in search of the elusive cockatrice.

Of course, once you find it, the quest...looks a bit harder. The monster hisses, ready to turn anyone who approaches to stone, as cockatrice tend to do. What do you even feed that thing? How will you get it to take it without getting stoned up? There are so many questions.

At least the stone will wear off...eventually… if you’re unlucky enough to get petrified.

Prompt 4:

ut hey, you did it! You fed the cockatrice, it seemed satisfied, and now you can go fetch your reward from your home. It must be something amazing, with the work that you put in.

The only change in your home, though, is what looks like a...picture book. It's got a colorful cover (in your character's color shade), and has their name on the cover, so it definitely belongs to them.

And when they flip it open, it's clearly full of pictures scribbled in, as if drawn in scribbly crayon. Unlike the rest of the Town, this book is fully colorful, every shade of the rainbow in those crayon strokes... which depict, page by page, your character's worst moments in their life. Every single last horrific experience or tragic moment -- it's all there, in colorful, cute children's drawings.

Congratulations!

Yuuri "Ishtar" Suzuki | Red River

[personal profile] prochronistic 2018-04-29 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
one;
[Yuuri's been through a lot in her lifetime. There's something about being pulled through time to the Bronze Age that makes one willing to believe in almost anything, but candy houses still seem like something out of fairy tales to her.

Her first instinct is to eat it. ...buuuut even she knows it's probably not safe.

Still, she's kind of sniffing around the structure and the furniture, trying to decide whether or not to take the plunge.]

...it smells edible, don't you think?

two;
[A girl's gotta eat.

It's been awhile since Yuuri's made her own food, but she still remembers how. (And, to be fair, sandwiches are pretty basic.) So here she is with a batch of ingredients spread out in front of her, already chopped and prepped.

She's looking away from them for now as she arranges a few slices of bread.]

Can you hand me a few slices of tomato? The red ones.

[She clarifies, just in case there's anyone here who doesn't know what a tomato is. There were all sorts of things she didn't know when she appeared in the Hittite Empire, after all.

...to bad for her all of the pre-cut ingredients have lost their color! Now they're just sort of colorless veggies in the same general shape. That might make granting her request a little harder.]

three;
[All right, it's quest time.

Are you here willingly or not? Who knows. Yuuri's preference is for wiling participants, but if they need to complete these quests, she's not above dragging someone along either. They've... found the cockatrice! It hasn't noticed them yet, because they're hiding in some bushes to keep it from spotting them.

Her voice comes out in a hushed whisper.]

What do cockatrices eat, anyway?

four;
[Storytime!

Here's Yuuri with her book. She's got it open to a page depicting her on a horse, about to cross a river, as some kind of head ornament breaks. It's hard to tell in the crayon-like drawing, but her expression is conflicted.

...it's a mirror of the look on her face now, actually.]

...Kail...

[Had she been about to change the course of history, she wonders? Maybe she was always meant to go home. Maybe since she didn't, the powers that be whisked her away to keep from changing something that shouldn't be changed.

That's a sobering thought.]

[ I - A KISS WITH A FIST.... ]

[Guess who has two thumbs and no self of self-preservation?

THIS GUY.]

Oh, that looks delicious...! [Ieyasu will just. Break off a piece? What the fuck. His eyes gleam with both curiosity an delight as he sniffs it, turning to the nearest person and - ] Excuse me, my friend! Would you happen to know what this is?

[it's candy, you old timey fool!!!]

Is it safe to consume? Or - is this someone's home? [ . . . wait, fuck - ] Ah, should I not have broken it...?

[TOO LATE]

[ III - BAKAWK ]

Ah, a mission...? Well, it's been a while since I had another lord to report to.

[ - but despite this, he doesn't sound bothered at all? Ieyasu grins easily as he looks over the instructions and thinks well, it sounds simple enough? once again he will find the nearest person who seems to express interest and holds a hand out to them in his too friendly way, as if he's addressing an old comrade rather than a stranger]

Shall we? I promise to have your back through any danger...!

[given that his hands seems to be decked out with pretty intense brass knuckles, maybe he has enough brawn to back up his bark...?]

[ IV - WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS (OR LIVES) ]

[Ieyasu took his book outside, because he does all his best thinking outside rather than cooped up indoors. as such, it's easy to find him rather comfortably sat on the ground, legs crossed with his chin resting in one hand, book in front of him. in most situations, his disposition is sunny. even if you hadn't encountered him directly, he was certainly always smiling, beaming, laughing -

the pages open in front of him are covered in red.

gruesome, wartorn scenes cover the pages, small crayon warriors felled in a myriad of bloody ways. impaled by spears, swords, decapitated. pages and pages of crayon death. each page he turns is the same. a new crudely drawn landscape of a battlefield, often with a small man in yellow off to the side, only able to look on over the fallen soldiers.

a soft, rueful laugh that seems to carry the weight of the world escapes him as obvious pain flashes over his expression]

... Aha... Charming...

[ieyasu's eyes remain downcast up until he realizes that there's someone nearby. he doesn't seem to be concerned if they've noticed the remarkable amount of Death in his book, instead meeting their gaze with a rather sheepish look]

I rather hope that your gift contains happier tidings than mine....

annabeth chase | riordan mythos

[personal profile] athenite 2018-04-29 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ annabeth can be found constantly in jeans; sneakers; a neon orange camp half-blood t-shirt; and a necklace with ten clay beads, a coral pendant, and a gold ring hung on it. her hair is either down or up but is consistently curly, and her eyes are ~intense stormy gray~ thanks canon for that. ]

i. suspicious house candy
[ annabeth doesn't eat the candy. because...why? no? that's dumb? she's well known for not being a complete moron? it's like her calling card. she's reckless sometimes, yes, and she's curious about it...but eating a candy house in the middle of the woods isn't really tempting so much as it is kind of insulting.

accordingly she'll be standing there with her hands on her hips staring at you in patent disbelief if you try any of the candy. ]

Seriously?

[ spoiler alert: if you try to fight her or kiss her, the result will be the same. annabeth chase is pretty much always ready to rumble.

if you don't try the obviously suspect candy, she'll just have her arms crossed as she eyes the house. ]

This has to be the most obvious trap I've seen in...a week. [ look........... ]
iii. questing is second nature here
Okay, usually the best way to deal with a cockatrice is a reflective surface - but that's to trick it into killing itself. I suppose killing it would not qualify as feeding it, so we're going to have to get creative.

[ for a teenager with blond princess curls annabeth sure seems fine with this turn of events? she pulls a new york yankees baseball cap out of her back pocket. ]

First off, we can't meet its gaze...but sneaking up on it and throwing down the food might be our best option? You just cause a distraction and I'll sneak.
iv. this reward is worse than a t-shirt
[ the fun part of being a demigod: there are just so many worst moments to choose from. the one the book is held open to as annabeth more or less storms outside depicts a younger version of herself holding the entire sky on her shoulders.

it actually isn't a metaphor.

she storms with a purpose, generally, and it is straight over to you. ]

Did you get one of these??? [ it's not clear if other people getting terrible picture books would be better or worse, here. ]
v. town hall
[ assuming there have been other meetups, this seems like a good enough place to hang about outside of her own home in flavo. annabeth has a laptop open and is typing away industriously - but the laptop looks a bit higher tech than their assigned laptops, and the keys and readout is all in ancient greek.

probably most people can't read that, although they can see schematics on the screen which look like bridge plans for some reason...

well, some of the bridges from the other month might need fixing still who knows. ]

Meridiana Everett | Count Cain | Yellow

[personal profile] occultigen 2018-04-29 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
1 — That'll Give You Diabeetus

[You know, it's really a testament to how utterly terrible her life is that she's walking through a forest and even the literal trees are beating her up, and yet the reaction the strange blond girl in Victorian dress appears to be having to all this is essentially best summed up by John Mulaney.

She's quite pretty, even though her shoulder-length hair is conspicuously tattered at the ends, looking more like it's been hacked off than properly trimmed; then, of course, there's the fact that her full-length gown with corset and heels render her completely out of place in the uneven terrain of a forest. Plus there's the fact that she just looks more like she belongs posed on a shelf somewhere than wandering around — doll-like, with big blue eyes and fair skin and something a little eerie about the way that she carries herself, a little too poised and a little too scared.

You might just see her being knocked down by the branches, if you happen to be in the woods; she's about as light as a bunch of grapes, and consequently it doesn't take much for the trees to bat her over. Still, she keeps getting back up and wandering, looking increasingly more miserable as she goes, until finally she reaches the candy house in the clearing.

And you know, this isn't her house and a witch will probably leap out if she decides to sample it, but, well. You know those days where you're like, this might as well happen?

Yeah. This is one of them.]

3 — Attila the Hen

[Oh, boy, oh, boy, time to go into the woods and get stoned!

Or, well. Time to set off on that particular adventure, at least. Meridiana's sort of hovering around by the edge of the forest at this point, looking utterly out of place and generally nervous, which probably isn't a surprise when you consider how tired she is of getting whacked around by all those tree branches.

Still, a quest is a quest, and she's doing her best to bear up bravely, so if you happen to be her vicinity, she might just flag you down —]

Er...pardon me, but — are we all meant to venture out and see about this...feeding business? It's only that I'm not sure if I'm, er, well suited to it, and...

[She looks like she'd fall over and faint after ten minutes of hiking, frankly, "not well-suited" is a bit of an understatement.]

4 — CW: Kaori Yuki

[How exactly did Meridiana manage to assist in completing this quest? Who even knows, but it seems she's found her picture book, and has taken it outside by the well to have a look and read it, intrigued by the warm yellow cover and the sight of her name emblazoned across it —

Of course, the instant after she opens it up and has a look, she slams the cover shut again, abruptly going deathly white and more than a little terrified, and starts clutching the book to her chest with both arms folded over it, like she's trying to hold it so tight that there's no chance of it ever opening again.]

i.candy
[ Holy crap a candy house. Mafuyu has not read enough books to know what this might mean, going straight for the bright reds and breaking off large chunks of rock candy. This is all hers. There is no need for any mysterious magical influence over her will, she will fight any person who so much as sets their eyes on the house, aiming a straight punch straight to the sternum with no warning whatsoever. ]

ii.quest
What's a cockatrice?

[ The rest of the quest Mafuyu seems to have figured out, her arms full of all sorts of colored food- candy, fruits... mostly candy. But there's no feeding without a target, so in the meantime, she traipses through the forest crunching lollipops and chewing on the sticks, shouting all along the way. ]

Hey, cockatriiiiiicce! Come out here and show your face!

[ Surely that will get the creature to appear. ]

iii.storybook
What the heck...?

[ Mafuyu frowns at the book. She hasn't even opened it yet, and already she's disappointed— it had to be a book, nothing she can eat. A useless prize. At least it's a picture book and not one with a lot of words, and she flips through it with mild disinterest.

Her, with long blond hair and a middle schooler's uniform, getting handcuffed by the cops.

Her, with a knife embedded on the wall half an inch from the side of her head, her mother looming before her.

Her, lying on the ground, bloody and bruised with a boy standing in front of her, broomstick in his hands. ]

Prompt 1

[For the record? He's not super pleased he's got to tromp around in the woods again. Like, yeah, he can do it, it's not like he's helpless, and anyway he doesn't really have a choice . . . but all that being said, he's always liked the city more. Way less dirt and fuss and way more cute girls and fancy clothes.

But hey, for a man newly ressurected, he doesn't have a lot to complain about, so he supposes he'll take it. He even got his old clothes back! That's . . . nice, he supposes.

But so: here he is, picking his way languidly through the woods, hands jammed into his leather pants, when suddenly there's . . . a house made of candy.]

. . . seriously?

[He actually glances around, like maybe somebody's going to pop out and shout surprise! The world's weirded Candid Camera, you know? But no, no, nobody's near, and after a few seconds Greed shrugs.

And maybe the kid rubbed off a bit on him, because though he's not human, though he doesn't actually need to eat, still he picks off a bit of the exterior and pops it into his mouth.

Eh. Lemon flavored. Not really worth it.

It takes about three seconds for the effects to kick in. Honestly, it's a little hard to tell, because there's a part of Greed who's always ready to throw down in one way if not another. So when he spots someone else coming up along near him, he's got one of two responses.

But see, it's honestly pretty easy. If you're a lady, he's going to try and kiss you. And if you're a dude, he's going to try to fight you.

Either way, square up, because there's a dude staring over at you with a grin that's full of far too many sharp teeth. Seriously, what is he, a shark?]

Prompt 4;

Well, well.

[Oh, is this book filled with all the worst days of his lengthy life? You wouldn't know it from Greed's expression. He looks pretty interested as he flips through the pages, whistling softly at one particularly bright illustration. There's lots of gold and red on that one; it almost looks as if there's someone being lowered into a boiling vat of . . . something. Gold? Lava? Who can tell, because--]

Man, these drawings are terrible.

[And creepy! Super creepy! He's definitely skipping past a few in the beginning, but hey, that's no big deal. They just weren't that interesting, that's all. Not at all. Dull, dull, dull . . .

He lingers over another, wrinkling his nose as he stares down at it. It's a stark blue sky, marred by a black-and-red blob seemingly floating around in the midst. That's weird.]
