Test Drive Meme 3.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells,
And cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Prompt 1:

t's probably been at least a little while since you managed to climb out of the well, so hopefully you've dried off by now and are enjoying poking around the Town. But who cares about all of that? More importantly, the Town has a new feature this time, for reasons entirely unknown to everyone.

The flowers...seem to be talking. They have no faces, but they will definitely turn to talk to you, and if they have had their color restored, they will very brightly and contentedly compliment you, or your clothing, or wish you well.

If they haven't? Prepare yourself for all sorts of horrible, horrible insults, because that's all that's coming your way.

Prompt 2:

ow are you settling in? Is the Town treating you well? It's not as bad as it used to be; some of the houses have color, some of the food has color and taste as well. It's been polished up a bit since everyone first got here.

Granted, when you wake up that morning to find yourself in full fancy wear of many different types (all colorless, and gender has nothing to do with which you might end up in), you'll find that the Town might not be as well put together as it seems.

You can't get out of the formal wear. It just won't come off, no matter what you do. Which wouldn't be so bad, but... it seems like these clothes will snag on just about everything in the Town, which is far from smooth. Try not to trip over those loose cobblestones, or your dress snagging on a nail sticking out from a door frame. This is really not the place for this sort of clothing.

Prompt 3:

e loves me, he loves me not... that's a pretty familiar game, right? For some reason, the urge to pick one of those flowers and casually pluck the petals from it while playing that game is going to grow stronger and stronger the more flowers you see. Eventually? You're just going to have to cave to it.

(Certainly it doesn't help that the flowers scream a bit when you pull their petals; they still can talk right now, after all!)

She loves you, she loves you not...and by the time you've picked the last petal, you've forgotten who you were even thinking of originally -- instead, the very next person you see is going to be the victim of a very impassioned declaration of love. Don't worry, you'll come back to yourself...after you declare your undying love for everyone to hear.

Prompt 4:

ut no matter how many people tell you not to go into the forest, however, it's still rather enticing, isn't it? It's sitting right there, waiting for you to explore it, waiting for you to just step a little bit out of the Town...

And soon, you're surrounded by the dark boughs of the trees, the twisty, turny paths of the woods, where it feels like you're wandering in circles for hours upon hours --

And then, after ages of tree branches yanking at your hair and roots tripping you up, you find a clearing.

And in that clearing? There's a field of flowers. They're colorless -- strangely eerie because of it, but still distinctly recognizable to the flower familiar as Asphodel. And touching any single one of those flowers will suddenly give you vivid memories of one of your precious friends -- so long as they're dead. Anyone around you is going to experience that flash of memory too, so be careful!

[ As if in revenge, Nico tears the remains of the flower apart before flicking it away. Had he Leo's fire skills he would have burned it as well.

After the destruction of the flora he tucks his hands into the pockets of his black jacket as if that's enough to stop him from picking another. Then shuffles back into the shadow of a building and debates using it to go very far away. ]

Not if you're a god or goddess or demigod of love who might find it amusing.

[ His tone isn't angry at all, nope. ]

I couldn't help it, it's as if I was drawn to do it in the first place.
promissum: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Gods and demigods? I take it you have some experience.

[Meanwhile Val completely ignores the tone. He's never heard of gods of love before. Angels of love, certainly.]

I'm sure it could be much worse than harmless words. You snapped out of it almost immediately.
umbraportation: (walk away from the world)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
A bit, yeah. Not all pleasant experiences.

[ The kids of Aphrodite aren't bad for the most part but Nico doesn't want to come face to face with Favonius again. Or Eros or Cupid - whatever people might call him. ]

Words can have a lot of power, they can be dangerous or painful no matter how fast you snap out of it. [ If Will had seen him confessing like that to someone else, how much would he have hurt the other teen? He remembers the agony of words spoken aloud. ] Even if you didn't mean it or misspoke because of emotions or a curse, it can hurt someone.

The closes thing I've met to a love god was an archangel. I believe that was just a particular quirk of hers.

[Though as a demon, he doesn't speak to that many angels. They try to keep to their separate territories as much as they can. He's only spoken to two personally and that was because the end of the world was upon them.]

It's best to always say what you mean. But it seems like it's not entirely possible in a place like this.
umbraportation: (hollow and empty)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Most people call him by the name Cupid these days.

[ He wishes that being a child of Hades meant he doesn't have to speak to that many "angelic"-like gods. In the end, Nico did what he needed to even though it hurt and that was because 1) he'd promised and 2) it was sort of the end of the world. At least the world as they knew it, anyway. ]

Saying what you mean isn't easy but random love confessions that flowers curse you to say isn't any better either.
promissum: (Listening)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-19 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
No. I know an archangel named Flonne. I don't believe anybody has ever called her "Cupid".

[Artina certainly hadn't and she'd known Flonne for centuries. Ah, that's right, different worlds exist in a place like this. While he's no stranger to the concept, something so far removed from his own reality is a bit odd.]

Are you having trouble being honest, lad? What about it is giving you difficulties?
umbraportation: (and I feel this life)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Has she actually told you that? Or maybe she's been called Aphrodite?

[ If the Greek gods can be real, why not archangels? But so far he hasn't actually seen any that exist in his world. Though he's far better versed in both Greek and Roman mythology than any religions running around the world. ]

No, I don't have trouble being honest. [ He's shared when he's wanted to and once when he was forced. ] And if I did, I wouldn't share them with someone I just met.
promissum: (Neutral)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-19 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't had the chance to speak to her for more than a few minutes at a time. She came to our rescue with a giant mech after we prayed to her. It runs off belief, after all.

Demons praying to angels... [He lets out a quiet chuckle.]

I find it is much easier to mean what you say when you say it. As you said, words can hold power. They can be binding.
umbraportation: (walk away from the world)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Seems you'd have more important things to talk about than names if she's coming to your rescue. [ A curious look, not one of terror or even disgust. ]

You're a demon? [ If there's one thing Nico can understand it's being connected to some version of hell. ]

I know that. Probably better than most people. [ He's said things out of anger and grief, terrible things. He's hurt people, lost control of his powers even. ] I've learned from my mistakes.
promissum: (Listening)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-19 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
It was a high stakes situation. At least that's all been resolved now. The moon won't be crashing out of the sky any time soon.

Yes, I am. [If Nico looks at him carefully enough, there are fangs in his mouth. Not to mention his pointed elf ears.]

Mistakes are some of the best teachers. For humans or demons.
umbraportation: (walk among the shadows)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Being dragged here in the middle of that situation would have been nerve-wracking. Not knowing what was happening back home.

[ He does look carefully, catching all the differences between this guy and other creatures Nico knows. ] I've met a lot of Underworld creatures but this is the first time I've seen a demon.

[ Totally unfazed by the fact that this guy's supposed to be bad. ]

Don't know about demons but if humans didn't wise up eventually, they end up punished in the afterlife for eternity.
promissum: (Listening)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-19 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
While I'm not pleased to be here, at least they were courteous enough to bring me after we ensured Earth was safe.

[Val seems a bit interested at the mention of the Underworld.] Have you now? No vampire demons at all? Werewolves? Prinnies?

Interesting. Where I'm from demons are the ones who are in charge of sinful human souls. Though no matter what their sins, they have the ability to pay back their sins in order to reincarnate.
umbraportation: (and I feel this life)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-19 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Can't really say that I'm from between big two big catastrophes but someone else is handling the most recent one.

[ A casual shrug of his shoulders. ] As far as blood-sucking creatures go we have Empousai and we call our werewolves, lycanthropes. Can't say I know what prinnies are.

Most people who die all end up in the Underworld, good or bad. Sinners go to the Fields of Punishment and the Furies are the ones who look after them. Those who deserve it go to Elysium and can be reborn if they want to be. Everyone else, ends up in the Fields of Asphodel just sort of... drifting.

[ Does Val know the Greek version of the afterlife because that's exactly what Nico's talking about. ]
promissum: (Neutral)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-20 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Good. It's always best to have comrades when it comes to burdens that great.

Prinnies are the souls of sinners who must work to pay back their sins.

[Val listens and while it sounds familiar, he can't pin it to any particular myths.] Exceptionally pure humans may be eligible to become a human. I've only met one such angel. Everyone who was a standard human simply gets reborn.

The Fields of Asphodel must be crowded.
umbraportation: (walk among the shadows)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-20 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I guess so. [ A shrug. ]

Sometimes the gods get creative with people who have sinned but that's usually for eternity.

[ Nico's curious to learn about the Underworld from different worlds or cultures. ] Some worthy humans can be reborn to try and earn their way to the Isle of the Blest, though few have ever done it as they have to have three lives where they've earned a spot in Elysium.

[ Now he snorts in amusement. ] That's an understatement. It's jam packed.
promissum: (Former Tyrant)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-08-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Don't gods have better things to do? It's like they're always trying to destroy this or that. [Apparently this demon has many complaints.]

What a process. [It's not even judging, it's more of a "that's an awful lot of work."]

Why bother keeping so many souls forever? Do your gods need them for something? Manual labor? Servitude?
umbraportation: (walk away from the world)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-21 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
They're immortal so they probably have a lot of time on their hands. The last powerful deity who got upset and wanted to destroy everything was Mother Earth, herself. [ Val's come to the right place to complain then. ]

Yeah, but the gods have got some ghostly Judges handling the everyday cases. [ Unless a god or goddess comes down and goes "Hey, Hades. I'd like this person to have special treatment" the punishments are typical. ]

Never really asked. Though I guess for those who are being punished forever it'd be because the gods and goddesses know how to hold a grudge for a very long time.
