Test Drive Meme 3.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells,
And cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Prompt 1:

t's probably been at least a little while since you managed to climb out of the well, so hopefully you've dried off by now and are enjoying poking around the Town. But who cares about all of that? More importantly, the Town has a new feature this time, for reasons entirely unknown to everyone.

The flowers...seem to be talking. They have no faces, but they will definitely turn to talk to you, and if they have had their color restored, they will very brightly and contentedly compliment you, or your clothing, or wish you well.

If they haven't? Prepare yourself for all sorts of horrible, horrible insults, because that's all that's coming your way.

Prompt 2:

ow are you settling in? Is the Town treating you well? It's not as bad as it used to be; some of the houses have color, some of the food has color and taste as well. It's been polished up a bit since everyone first got here.

Granted, when you wake up that morning to find yourself in full fancy wear of many different types (all colorless, and gender has nothing to do with which you might end up in), you'll find that the Town might not be as well put together as it seems.

You can't get out of the formal wear. It just won't come off, no matter what you do. Which wouldn't be so bad, but... it seems like these clothes will snag on just about everything in the Town, which is far from smooth. Try not to trip over those loose cobblestones, or your dress snagging on a nail sticking out from a door frame. This is really not the place for this sort of clothing.

Prompt 3:

e loves me, he loves me not... that's a pretty familiar game, right? For some reason, the urge to pick one of those flowers and casually pluck the petals from it while playing that game is going to grow stronger and stronger the more flowers you see. Eventually? You're just going to have to cave to it.

(Certainly it doesn't help that the flowers scream a bit when you pull their petals; they still can talk right now, after all!)

She loves you, she loves you not...and by the time you've picked the last petal, you've forgotten who you were even thinking of originally -- instead, the very next person you see is going to be the victim of a very impassioned declaration of love. Don't worry, you'll come back to yourself...after you declare your undying love for everyone to hear.

Prompt 4:

ut no matter how many people tell you not to go into the forest, however, it's still rather enticing, isn't it? It's sitting right there, waiting for you to explore it, waiting for you to just step a little bit out of the Town...

And soon, you're surrounded by the dark boughs of the trees, the twisty, turny paths of the woods, where it feels like you're wandering in circles for hours upon hours --

And then, after ages of tree branches yanking at your hair and roots tripping you up, you find a clearing.

And in that clearing? There's a field of flowers. They're colorless -- strangely eerie because of it, but still distinctly recognizable to the flower familiar as Asphodel. And touching any single one of those flowers will suddenly give you vivid memories of one of your precious friends -- so long as they're dead. Anyone around you is going to experience that flash of memory too, so be careful!

[ Annoying at is, Kaiki glances over without much change in expression, still looking mostly like a dead fish. And then slowly, deliberately, he raises a hand to press to his chest, pretending it's a dramatic gesture. It's very much at odds with his flat tone of voice. ]

How cruel. [ Says the guy with a shoe still firmly laid over the nice flower. ] Trying to induce such guilt in a man merely confused by these strange circumstances ... Do you take pleasure in driving stakes into the hearts of strangers? Perhaps these flowers have a point.

[ The flowers are busy hurling insults at both of them, but that doesn't invalidate his point. ]

Stakes? Vampire hunting ain't my expertise, amigo! My weapon of choice is more of a guitar.

[She had to admit that this dude really did look straight out of a vampire book. As an alien, she really wasn't good at showing sympathy to other forms of intelligent life. Emotions like that were better to box away as they would get in the way of what she wanted. Hence why she casually picks her nose like some rotten teenager.]

Gotta admit that this place really needs to work on the landscaping. If you wanna buy a home here, you'll have to deal with racket asides noisy married old couples.

[ Amigo? That earns a slight squint because nobody's ever called him that before (and it turns out he doesn't really enjoy it), but Kaiki makes no direct comment, instead looking down at the flowers. ]

You're already considering real estate options in this place? [ A faint smirk at the thought. As a wanderer, just the thought of owning property is slightly ridiculous to him, even without the talking flowers. ] I wouldn't say things like that out loud, though. A land with talking flowers ... In a place like this, from folklore, from a fairy tale, speculation like that might be dangerous. Be careful what you wish for, as the saying goes.

A girl's gotta crash somewhere, pyon~ [She does cock an eyebrow.] You afraid of the big bad wolf, old man?

[Haruko was a free spirit who freeloaded wherever she liked. She also was a wandered who traveled in pursuit of her goal. Discarding of whatever wanton destruction or mental trauma that she left behind for kids and adults alike.

Speaking of wanton destruction, Haruko looks down at one of the flowers who was insulting her and she casually pulls it out of the dirt. The flower stops talking right there.]

Oh, shut up! And you colored guys that are still singing praises and compliments about me? You're fine, so keep talking! [She points at the picked flower.] Or else you'll end up like your buddy here!

[ Hm. So they stop talking when picked. A good thing to know. Kaiki silently thanks Haruko for making that move in his stead -- it's not that he was particularly scared of harming the flowers, but it's also not in his nature to take any risks without the possibility of profiting from it. ]

The big bad wolf ... [ A thoughtful cant of the head. ] Not quite correct on two fronts. I'm not afraid, and the 'adversary' here wouldn't be a wolf. More like a butterfly, anything. Ah, it's like from old fairy tales of children being tempted by beautiful lights leading them astray in the dead of night, chasing beautiful insects into the forest, only to be spirited away and never seen again.

One doesn't need to be afraid of those mischievous insects to want to avoid them. Likewise, I would be careful of things in this strange place. Careful of one's words, and careful of these flowers. [ He cants his head the other way, nodding towards the cheery flowers. ]

[Ironically, Haruko would be associated with a wasp. Her sting marks never went away and she leaves as noisily as she comes by. His story brings a coy little smirk to her face. She has a history with children, that's for sure.]

It's funny how most fairy tales have sad and depressing ends. Nowadays, you seem 'em getting more happier ones. Kinda makes it feel like adults want to hide bitter truths from kids, y'know~?

[So says the shady adult who manipulates kids for her personal goals. If kids needed a kick into adulthood, then Haruko was always to give them the shove that they needed. The irony here was that she was the one who needed to grow up the most. Giving advice to kids, yet never taking her own advice.

Whenever Kaiki turns his head, Haruko steps over to tuck the flower into his hair. Then steps back with a mischievous smirk.]

Awwww! You look gorgeous.
