Test Drive Meme 3.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells,
And cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Prompt 1:

t's probably been at least a little while since you managed to climb out of the well, so hopefully you've dried off by now and are enjoying poking around the Town. But who cares about all of that? More importantly, the Town has a new feature this time, for reasons entirely unknown to everyone.

The flowers...seem to be talking. They have no faces, but they will definitely turn to talk to you, and if they have had their color restored, they will very brightly and contentedly compliment you, or your clothing, or wish you well.

If they haven't? Prepare yourself for all sorts of horrible, horrible insults, because that's all that's coming your way.

Prompt 2:

ow are you settling in? Is the Town treating you well? It's not as bad as it used to be; some of the houses have color, some of the food has color and taste as well. It's been polished up a bit since everyone first got here.

Granted, when you wake up that morning to find yourself in full fancy wear of many different types (all colorless, and gender has nothing to do with which you might end up in), you'll find that the Town might not be as well put together as it seems.

You can't get out of the formal wear. It just won't come off, no matter what you do. Which wouldn't be so bad, but... it seems like these clothes will snag on just about everything in the Town, which is far from smooth. Try not to trip over those loose cobblestones, or your dress snagging on a nail sticking out from a door frame. This is really not the place for this sort of clothing.

Prompt 3:

e loves me, he loves me not... that's a pretty familiar game, right? For some reason, the urge to pick one of those flowers and casually pluck the petals from it while playing that game is going to grow stronger and stronger the more flowers you see. Eventually? You're just going to have to cave to it.

(Certainly it doesn't help that the flowers scream a bit when you pull their petals; they still can talk right now, after all!)

She loves you, she loves you not...and by the time you've picked the last petal, you've forgotten who you were even thinking of originally -- instead, the very next person you see is going to be the victim of a very impassioned declaration of love. Don't worry, you'll come back to yourself...after you declare your undying love for everyone to hear.

Prompt 4:

ut no matter how many people tell you not to go into the forest, however, it's still rather enticing, isn't it? It's sitting right there, waiting for you to explore it, waiting for you to just step a little bit out of the Town...

And soon, you're surrounded by the dark boughs of the trees, the twisty, turny paths of the woods, where it feels like you're wandering in circles for hours upon hours --

And then, after ages of tree branches yanking at your hair and roots tripping you up, you find a clearing.

And in that clearing? There's a field of flowers. They're colorless -- strangely eerie because of it, but still distinctly recognizable to the flower familiar as Asphodel. And touching any single one of those flowers will suddenly give you vivid memories of one of your precious friends -- so long as they're dead. Anyone around you is going to experience that flash of memory too, so be careful!

why not

[Nothing happens, but the shock of it is lost on indifference.

From within one of the sparse clearings in the field, a sword lifts and gleams in the light. The sharp end of it has impaled one of the beautiful flowers right through the middle of all the petals.

Was he hiding? Maybe. He's small enough that the flowers conceal him rather well. The only reason anyone would notice is if he did something blatant... like raise his sword up for show.]

Rather dull, if you ask me. I can always stab you if you were expecting something more interesting.
highrolls: or at least that's what dat ass says (ASIDE ¥ skinny jeans are back in style)

AN EXCELLENT GREMLIN

[personal profile] highrolls 2018-08-20 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't sound very interesting at all. After all, you and I both already know exactly what will happen if you do.

[No one in the world manages to be quite so blasé about a death threat as Sakyo. But that's what you get when you live your life from one gamble to the next, perhaps; the only thing that can entertain you anymore is the thrill of a greater and greater risk.]

Hello, Hiei. Don't you have a victory celebration to be attending?

i have too many gremlins??? help me

[personal profile] imiko 2018-08-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing bores me to death quicker than parties.

[With a flick, he tosses the flower off the end of the sword and very much away from him. Hm. Gross.]

Though I suppose I would rather be loathing a victory celebration than stuck here with flowers and you.
highrolls: 'cause if we don't dance then we're no friends of mine (MUSE ¥ are we human or are we dancer)

What a shame you didn't save your round in the tournament for me, then. I could've brought a magnificent party to the arena and simply bored you to death.

[He reaches into the lapel pocket of his suit, drawing out a pack of cigarettes and bringing one to his mouth before replacing it and digging around for —

...Oh. That's right. She's got his lighter now, hasn't she. Hm.

Oh, well. With his cigarette held between his fingers, he pulls it out and away from his mouth and extends it toward Hiei.]

Would it be overly patronizing, troubling a fire demon for a light?

[Very slowly, Hiei's head tips back, and he offers Sakyo an annoyed and yet somehow very faintly amused, upside down stare.

The balls of asking much less mentioning the irony is a small entertainment. Maybe a challenge.

Quickly, he throws his legs over his face in a roll, but vanishes with speed halfway through the motion. It's a taunt, if anything. Sakyo won't even have to budge. A rush of icy, shadowy heat sears right by Sakyo's head with the purposeful miss.

Hiei ends up on the opposite side in a created clearing of flowers; all of them have been burnt to a crisp, ground included. Hiei sheaths his sword.

The end of Sakyo's cigarette burns.]

Ask me again, and I'll gladly light the rest of you on fire.
highrolls: fall out boy truly understands my soul (FLICK ¥ so light em up up up)

[The disastrous thing is, that's actually the best he's felt all day — which is to say, it's the first time he's felt something at all, all day.

He'd told Toguro on the verge of the final match of the tournament that when one is a gambler, sooner or later the risks that one takes absolutely have to escalate to the level of gambling one's own life. Smaller thrills can only last for so long before they, too, become dull and boring. He'd wagered his life on Toguro's victory, and his gamble hadn't panned out — and yet, if he'd been certain of that victory, then what would have been the point to begin with?

It's the risk. It's always the risk. And there can't be a risk without the opportunity for failure and for loss.

Hiei is one of the fastest demons Sakyo has ever witnessed — far faster than any human eye could hope to follow. A few inches to one side, and he could've lost his head before his senses were ever able to perceive that he'd died to begin with.

Instead, his cigarette burns.

Inexplicably enough, it brings a laugh to his throat as he turns to face the charred mass of flowers behind him, and the demon in the midst of them.]

Ever the theatrical one, aren't you? Much obliged.

[The rush for Hiei is insignificant and fleeting. He craves, as he always has, something bigger, something more dangerous. Higher stakes. A rival. Someone who can draw his blood. That's what ramps him up.

Surely Sakyo can commiserate, on a smaller scale.

After a moment, he turns around to face Sakyo while sliding one hand into a pocket. Theatrical and arrogant, as if doing something so flashy was like flicking dirt off an arm.]

You're the one who always wanted a show. The last one you craved you paid for with your life. Care to make it a habit?
