Test Drive Meme 3.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells,
And cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Prompt 1:

t's probably been at least a little while since you managed to climb out of the well, so hopefully you've dried off by now and are enjoying poking around the Town. But who cares about all of that? More importantly, the Town has a new feature this time, for reasons entirely unknown to everyone.

The flowers...seem to be talking. They have no faces, but they will definitely turn to talk to you, and if they have had their color restored, they will very brightly and contentedly compliment you, or your clothing, or wish you well.

If they haven't? Prepare yourself for all sorts of horrible, horrible insults, because that's all that's coming your way.

Prompt 2:

ow are you settling in? Is the Town treating you well? It's not as bad as it used to be; some of the houses have color, some of the food has color and taste as well. It's been polished up a bit since everyone first got here.

Granted, when you wake up that morning to find yourself in full fancy wear of many different types (all colorless, and gender has nothing to do with which you might end up in), you'll find that the Town might not be as well put together as it seems.

You can't get out of the formal wear. It just won't come off, no matter what you do. Which wouldn't be so bad, but... it seems like these clothes will snag on just about everything in the Town, which is far from smooth. Try not to trip over those loose cobblestones, or your dress snagging on a nail sticking out from a door frame. This is really not the place for this sort of clothing.

Prompt 3:

e loves me, he loves me not... that's a pretty familiar game, right? For some reason, the urge to pick one of those flowers and casually pluck the petals from it while playing that game is going to grow stronger and stronger the more flowers you see. Eventually? You're just going to have to cave to it.

(Certainly it doesn't help that the flowers scream a bit when you pull their petals; they still can talk right now, after all!)

She loves you, she loves you not...and by the time you've picked the last petal, you've forgotten who you were even thinking of originally -- instead, the very next person you see is going to be the victim of a very impassioned declaration of love. Don't worry, you'll come back to yourself...after you declare your undying love for everyone to hear.

Prompt 4:

ut no matter how many people tell you not to go into the forest, however, it's still rather enticing, isn't it? It's sitting right there, waiting for you to explore it, waiting for you to just step a little bit out of the Town...

And soon, you're surrounded by the dark boughs of the trees, the twisty, turny paths of the woods, where it feels like you're wandering in circles for hours upon hours --

And then, after ages of tree branches yanking at your hair and roots tripping you up, you find a clearing.

And in that clearing? There's a field of flowers. They're colorless -- strangely eerie because of it, but still distinctly recognizable to the flower familiar as Asphodel. And touching any single one of those flowers will suddenly give you vivid memories of one of your precious friends -- so long as they're dead. Anyone around you is going to experience that flash of memory too, so be careful!

[Probably definitely being the key word. It might not be what it once was, but it was still dangerous and confusing. It was true that they had an advantage over one of those things by being with Grover, but that didn't eliminate everything.

On top of that, they weren't sure that Camp Jupiter could face this fight without the help of Camp Half-Blood. The Romans were strong, but additional help was important.]

If Leo gets there in time. We don't have much of it.
umbraportation: (do not bother to try)

[ Navigating the Labyrinth would have been a whole lot better if they'd had Rachel with them considering how flawlessly she managed before. Apollo's not terrible in a fight but Meg is fierce enough so they'll have to rely on her skills a lot.

That's the problem with Camp Half-Blood coming to help Camp Jupiter - they had a long way to travel and if Leo doesn't have time flying Festus about half the distance then how are the Greeks supposed to get there in time. ]

Seems like that's always the problem - deadlines. You guys have any way of getting a message to Camp Half-Blood?

[ Maybe they can't get there in time but they can sure try. ]
havearaft: (Are we denying a crisis)

[personal profile] havearaft 2018-08-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[The corners of her mouth turn down heavily. When he asks about a way of contacting them she just shook her head. No communication worked, that was why Leo went to Camp Jupiter by himself rather than sending them a message.]

Which makes things even more difficult. I don't think I'll ever understand how mortals deal with all this stress.

[Except she was mortal now too. Eventually, she'd have to learn to handle this sort of thing.]
umbraportation: (and I feel this life)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-23 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ He knows that Iris Messages are out and so are phones or other electronic devices but he'd been hoping that maybe they had met someone who could deliver a message to them. Looks like that's out. ]

The only way I can think to get a message to Camp is if you happen to cross paths with one of Hypnos' kids. That's how I did it last time IM's were unreliable. I don't think trying to send a letter via wind nymph would work as well for you guys.

[ Calypso will have to get used to having mortal problems. ]
havearaft: (And then I get up in a panic)

[personal profile] havearaft 2018-08-23 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
My powers aren't strong enough for one of my sylphs to do it either.

[It's a hard admission to give, but better than her complete powerlessness back when they were at Camp Half-Blood]

Is there a way to make sure you meet up with one of them?

[She's never tried, she's never had to in fact. Generally, she's screaming into the wind at her relatives. Although, even that had been happening less recently.]
umbraportation: (fight till the last drop)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-23 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ An eyebrow goes up in curiosity at that. ]

Your powers are coming back?

[ He hadn't been right there when it was revealed that she didn't have powers anymore but one couldn't miss the way Leo rushed to do things for her. ]

Not sure. The one sending letters was a satyr who was married to a wind nymph so he might've had a special connections to make it possible.

[ Also... ]

Where exactly did Leo leave you that he could just take off on Festus alone?
havearaft: (And I'm down on my knees)

[personal profile] havearaft 2018-08-25 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Britomartis, ah, jump-started them for me.

[There was, of course, more to it than that. There were rescues and battles and so much more, but it wasn't the time to talk about exactly what happened in Indianapolis.]

A place called 'The Waystation' in Indianapolis. It's,

[She looks away, frowning. She's not sure if Leo would want her to tell the others, but Nico wasn't like his other friends. He was, different somehow.]

It's become our home. When this is over, we're going to live there.

umbraportation: (walk away from the world)

[personal profile] umbraportation 2018-08-25 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That was nice of her.

[ It may take him a minute to place the name but he knows who the goddess is, at least. Nico also figures there's a great story behind it but they can save that for later.

When she clearly hesitates, he watches her carefully. And then she calls it home and that's something Nico can understand. ]

Looks like you've found a place to be in this new world. [ For him it's only been seventy years but for Calypso, the world's changed a lot. Finding a place to call home is a good thing. So no, he doesn't hold it against her at all. ]

When things settle down, we'll have to come visit. Get a tour of the Waystation.
havearaft: (And I know that something is missing)

[personal profile] havearaft 2018-08-26 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Calling Britomartis nice actually makes her laugh. As goddesses go she wasn't awful, but nice isn't something she would use for her.]

Never tell Apollo that.

[The god's name is said without venom. With fondness even. Surprisingly, he had become a true friend, something she hoped remained after he returned to godhood. (Although she wouldn't hold her breath on that.)]

It's still, difficult -

[Without Leo things still seem strange and she gets confused easily. She knows that, to a worrisome extent, she relies on Leo to keep her from getting lost in this world that is nothing like she's used to.]

But we're going to school in the fall.

[It will be an experience, but at least it might help her to acclimate to the world she's come into.]

[ A casual shrug but it made Calypso laugh so it's fine. ]

Oh, I'm sure she was all "go do that and almost die for me" before she even thought about helping out.

[ That's how it seems to be with most gods and goddesses. He notices the way Calypso says Apollo's name but makes no comment on it. ]

Percy and I can try to help you with your abilities but I'm not sure how much we'll be able to do for you.

[ Maybe Nico shouldn't promise that Percy will help out, though he's sure they'd both be in agreement that the once immortal girl should have some way to defend herself here. As for her being out of place in a new world, Nico can relate to that and help as much as possible. ]

That should be fun.

[ Or at least enlightening. Give her a chance to interact with kids who aren't demigods and used to a world of weird. ]
