Prompt 1:
t's probably been at least a little while since you managed to climb out of the well, so hopefully you've dried off by now and are enjoying poking around the Town. But who cares about all of that? More importantly, the Town has a new feature this time, for reasons entirely unknown to everyone.
The flowers...seem to be talking. They have no faces, but they will definitely turn to talk to you, and if they have had their color restored, they will very brightly and contentedly compliment you, or your clothing, or wish you well.
If they haven't? Prepare yourself for all sorts of horrible, horrible insults, because that's all that's coming your way.
Prompt 2:
ow are you settling in? Is the Town treating you well? It's not as bad as it used to be; some of the houses have color, some of the food has color and taste as well. It's been polished up a bit since everyone first got here.
Granted, when you wake up that morning to find yourself in full fancy wear of many different types (all colorless, and gender has nothing to do with which you might end up in), you'll find that the Town might not be as well put together as it seems.
You can't get out of the formal wear. It just won't come off, no matter what you do. Which wouldn't be so bad, but... it seems like these clothes will snag on just about everything in the Town, which is far from smooth. Try not to trip over those loose cobblestones, or your dress snagging on a nail sticking out from a door frame. This is really not the place for this sort of clothing.
Prompt 3:
e loves me, he loves me not... that's a pretty familiar game, right? For some reason, the urge to pick one of those flowers and casually pluck the petals from it while playing that game is going to grow stronger and stronger the more flowers you see. Eventually? You're just going to have to cave to it.
(Certainly it doesn't help that the flowers scream a bit when you pull their petals; they still can talk right now, after all!)
She loves you, she loves you not...and by the time you've picked the last petal, you've forgotten who you were even thinking of originally -- instead, the very next person you see is going to be the victim of a very impassioned declaration of love. Don't worry, you'll come back to yourself...after you declare your undying love for everyone to hear.
Prompt 4:
ut no matter how many people tell you not to go into the forest, however, it's still rather enticing, isn't it? It's sitting right there, waiting for you to explore it, waiting for you to just step a little bit out of the Town...
And soon, you're surrounded by the dark boughs of the trees, the twisty, turny paths of the woods, where it feels like you're wandering in circles for hours upon hours --
And then, after ages of tree branches yanking at your hair and roots tripping you up, you find a clearing.
And in that clearing? There's a field of flowers. They're colorless -- strangely eerie because of it, but still distinctly recognizable to the flower familiar as Asphodel. And touching any single one of those flowers will suddenly give you vivid memories of one of your precious friends -- so long as they're dead. Anyone around you is going to experience that flash of memory too, so be careful!

Looks like we are. [ She could ask. Nico doesn't expect everyone to understand random odd words that aren't found in everyday conversation. ] Ghosts, skeletons, zombies. I can banish them as well.
[ There's no way he's mentioning how he turned a regular live demigod kid into a ghost before sending them to the Underworld. Or how he brought one of his sisters back to life completely as there were certain circumstances surrounding that. Maybe those Egyptian funeral rites are hindering the god in charge of it. ]
Kind of more like a Hades kid thing, though my half-sister doesn't have the same abilities.
no subject
i also have a reyna account if you wanted me to toss a praetor at nico for shits and giggles]That sounds rather useful.
[Creepy? Yeah, kind of. But not as creepy as it could be. She spends more time than she should with the god of funerals; dead things don't really bother her as much as they used to.
(Also she can quite handily blow up and dead thing that comes her way, so.)]
Fascinating. [...oh, god, she sounds like her brother again. She makes a face.] Just stop me if I start asking too many questions. Carter'll never let me live it down if he finds out and thinks I'm actually interested in learning something.
no subject
I would never say no to a lovely praetor sister-figure for shits and giggles]Yeah, it can be when you're outnumbered or need a distraction.
[ Not that ghosts are actually useful in a fight and take too long to summon but zombies and warrior skeletons? Absolutely.
(Good thing he doesn't intend to send dead things her way.)
The corner of his lips turn up at the face she makes. ] I'm used to it. There aren't many kids of Hades or Pluto around these days and I get around so I know a lot. Also I already said I'd keep quiet about the whole Greek and Egyptian information exchange - seems like this is part of that deal.
no subject
your wish, my command]I suppose that does seem fair enough.
[Whew. It's fine. She can learn what she wants to about the Greeks (and maybe surprise her brother by "just knowing" it if he ever shows up here, a thought which is endlessly amusing to her and will probably frustrate him greatly, someone give me a Carter, please).]
Though it also seems like I've been asking you all the questions. What do you want to know about Egyptian magic?
no subject
♥]They've saved my life more times than I care to count.
[ Now that Nico's the counselor for Hades Cabin, he has to answer questions for new campers even if no one else but Hazel actually stays in the cabin. (For the time being anyway.) But he'd be okay answering some questions Sadie has about the Greeks so she can surprise her brother. ]
You and your brother - are you demigods?
no subject
[That's an easy enough question to answer, and she sort of expects it - Percy and Annabeth had wondered the same thing. She anticipates follow-up questions, so she launches right into an explanation for it.]
Well, my father is Osiris, technically, but he was human when I was born. We're magicians, following the paths of the gods.
no subject
Guess that answers my question of what happens when a currently-human god has kids. [ Not that it had been a burning question on his mind. ] Your magic allows you to blow things up?
[ He doesn't ask about what sort of magic Carter can do. That feels like it would get him asked what sort of abilities his half-sister has and Nico isn't willing to share that information without her permission. ]
no subject
[Maybe it's not exactly how Nico's imagining it? Sadie doesn't know. She's not sure what exactly he's thinking of, because she doesn't know Apollo's situation, but she'd probably laugh if she heard about it, honestly.
At his next question, she grins wickedly.]
Do you want to see?
[She really looks like she hopes he'll say yes.]
no subject
[ Or humans were granted immortality by the gods. But yeah, he had been thinking about what would happen if Apollo was mortal for a few years and had a child in that time. Eventually they'll get around to current events.
A curious raise of his eyebrow and then Nico looks up and down the street. ]
Sure, but maybe not here. Don't want to get blamed if you accidentally blow up someone's house.
[ One hand emerges from his coat to gesture to the woods. ] We can move closer the forest.
no subject
[...
That's kind of a lie, so she nods in the direction of the woods and starts to walk toward them. Is she worried about causing a wildfire? No... not really. Explosions don't necessarily mean incineration. Just sometimes.]
Let me know once we're sufficiently far away, and I'll get started.
no subject
[ And really don't need things to be setting on fire either, he doesn't think there's an emergency Fire Department here if that happens. Nico nods and leads the way towards the forest but doesn't go that far. Definitely not into the woods but that area in between it and the buildings. ]
This looks good. [ He steps back so she can do her thing and he won't get caught in the blast. Hopefully it's enough distance. ]
no subject
[She sighs, knowing that making enemies within her first few hours here isn't a good idea (though, really, that would make this pretty much an average day for her). Once they come to a stop, though, she grins and surveys their surroundings.
There's a rock on the path - not too small, not too big. That will do nicely. Sadie points directly at it and speaks.]
Ha-di!
[A hieroglyph blazes in the air above her. It should be gold, but she hasn't gone on a quest to restore its color yet, so instead it's grayscale. Which is actually pretty funny, but there's no time for her to chuckle about that.
The rock explodes, shattering into small, pebble-sized shards that scatter around them.
Sadie looks tremendously proud of herself.]
See? It's quite useful in a pinch.
no subject
But when she points to a rock, his eyes are trained on it and then Sadie calls a word. A symbol appears above it which he can at least recognize as a hieroglyph even if he can't identify what it is exactly. His dyslexia does not extend to Egyptian writing.
Then it bursts into tiny rubble. He actually pulls his hands from his pockets and gives Sadie some applause. ]
Definitely useful. Somehow I think you're going to need it around this place. How far away can you be from a target?
no subject
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.
[And that is only going to be a lie if 12 apps get in before I can submit mine. When she straightens up, she still looks rather proud of herself. This is exactly why her brother - and most people, honestly - prefers to describe her as endearingly insufferable.]
It depends on how big the target is and how large an explosion I'm going for. The closer I am to it the better it works, of course.
no subject
Makes sense. [ Though it seems dangerous for her to be too close to an explosion. ] Does using magic tire you out?
no subject
[That's a yes, though - and she nods. Using too much magic is a surefire way to wind up exhausted. It's not something she wants just anyone to know, but a friend of Percy's is probably fine to tell.]
There are ways of making it easier. Magical artifacts, tools, and so on and so forth. Is it the same for you with your gifts from your father?
no subject
[ With knowing nothing about Egyptian magic or magician, it seems important to find out now rather than when she passes out in front of a monster. He nods, not sure what sort of magical artifacts or tools she might have with her. ]
Some are more draining than others, traveling by shadows is usually the worst. That has its limits before it starts taking a serious toll.
[ As he's sworn not to turn anyone else into ghosts and banish them to the Underworld, Nico doesn't mention that particular ability. ]
no subject
Traveling through shadows? [Sounds like traveling through the duat to her - or maybe just one of the surface layers of it.] How does that work, exactly? You just pop into the shadow of a tree in a park somewhere and nip on over to the shadow of a tree somewhere else?
no subject
[ Those volcano gods are nasty bastards sometimes. Maybe someday he'll take Sadie along so she can experience shadow-travel for herself and compare it to traveling through the duat. ]
The more people I take along, the less distance I can travel.
no subject
[That sounds pretty useful. The limitations on distance, less so, but - he doesn't talk about encountering monsters within the shadows or witnessing horrors as he travels, and it sounds more or less instantaneous.]
I can do something similar - though I haven't tried it out here just yet. Truthfully I'm not quite sure it'll work, since this is some whole other world, but it can't hurt to give it a go, can it?
no subject
If you can give it a go within the confines of the town, I say that's a good practice run. No telling what will happen if you try to go home or outside of the forest trying.
no subject
[And then, because it can't hurt to ask -]
Want to see if I can bring you along?
no subject
Sure. [ p a u s e ] It's not going to boot me out because I'm Greek, is it?
no subject
You know, I'm not sure? I can't see why it should, though. Monsters in the duat tend to go after people for being human rather than anything else. What pantheon you follow shouldn't have anything to do with it.
no subject
Hopefully my presence doesn't draw more monsters than usual, that's how it tends to work with demigods. [ One hand rests on his sword but doesn't pull it yet. ] Let's try it.
