Test Drive Meme 2.

These are the mem’ries that last.
These are the mem’ries that will never pass.
And time waits for no one.
It’s gone in a flash.
And only the mem’ries will last.

Prompt 1:

he forest looms, uninviting and full of menace, an unwelcoming place for sure. Time to go explore! It isn't as though there's anywhere else to go, now that you've looked around the Town.

The trees whack at you with branches that have far too much mobility for normal trees, strange and mutated animals watch from the shadows and boughs, and there’s the constant, constant sense of being watched --

But eventually, nonetheless, you’ll come across a small house in the forest. It sticks out like a sore thumb, bright and colorful, which is probably the first warning that something is way off, and it’s...covered in candy. It’s a candy house! It looks delicious.

(It’s empty, too, not a single soul in it, without even furniture, but everything is otherwise edible and utterly delicious.)

But if you eat the candy? You’re going to have a terrible, overwhelming urge to do one of two things:

  • Fight the first person you see
  • Kiss the first person you see

Unfortunate.

Prompt 2:

he problem with a Town like this is that now that color is starting to return, bit by bit? You never really know when color’s going to come back -- or disappear. Maybe you’ve made a delightful, delicious sandwich from handmade bread and tomatoes and deer meat, all of which have color now… and then suddenly, when taking a bite, you get only the taste of ash and bread and tomato as the deer meat loses color.

Also, someone probably died for that color to fade away. Alarming!

Or maybe you’re walking along when suddenly your makeshift clothing is a hideous mix-match of colors; it had seemed fine when it was all grey and colorless!

Or perhaps, even worse, you’re walking out of a house when suddenly, the flowerbed in front of it has full color, bright and maybe a little blinding after so much monochrome. Damn those color mechanics.

Prompt 3:

he quest seems simple, on the Quest Post:

Quest 33:
Feed the Cockatrice.
Requirements: 2 of any color

Key word, of course, is seems. First, you have to find the cockatrice. Maybe grab someone to drag into the woods with you, since there needs to be at least two of you. Time to stomp through the woods in search of the elusive cockatrice.

Of course, once you find it, the quest...looks a bit harder. The monster hisses, ready to turn anyone who approaches to stone, as cockatrice tend to do. What do you even feed that thing? How will you get it to take it without getting stoned up? There are so many questions.

At least the stone will wear off...eventually… if you’re unlucky enough to get petrified.

Prompt 4:

ut hey, you did it! You fed the cockatrice, it seemed satisfied, and now you can go fetch your reward from your home. It must be something amazing, with the work that you put in.

The only change in your home, though, is what looks like a...picture book. It's got a colorful cover (in your character's color shade), and has their name on the cover, so it definitely belongs to them.

And when they flip it open, it's clearly full of pictures scribbled in, as if drawn in scribbly crayon. Unlike the rest of the Town, this book is fully colorful, every shade of the rainbow in those crayon strokes... which depict, page by page, your character's worst moments in their life. Every single last horrific experience or tragic moment -- it's all there, in colorful, cute children's drawings.

Congratulations!

Um...

[The other's reaction had been unexpected to say the least, and the sudden command even more so. There's just one problem....]

Sure, but...wouldn't it be safer to do that outside?

[You know, out where there's a lot less flammable material.]

[personal profile] parodeity 2018-05-11 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like, it would hard to be more obviously a trap. Maybe if it had a sign that said come in small children you definitely won't be eaten here?

[ dave's just spitballing here, southern drawl coming from the side where he stands with his arms crossed over his chest, eyeing the place. ]
whenitsgone: (i have the control)

[personal profile] whenitsgone 2018-05-11 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point.

[ Warrick hadn't been thinking about safe. He'd merely been thinking about destruction. This is a mode he doesn't tend to get into anymore, not since he got his heart back. Worrying for a moment over that fact, his hand sneaks to touch the hilt of the sword at his side, just to make sure his heart is still there. Feeling the pulse of it, he sighs in relief, before letting go and nodding. ]

Outside. Yeah. Let's go.

[ He picks up the book and resists the urge to dust it off. It's really quite hard. ]

[He doesn't see many birds in the World. That place's version of cats was far more common than anything else, and while he knows the reasoning behind that, he can't help but to wonder now what it would be like with creatures like this around day to day. Better? Worse? Oh well. Even in his unfamiliarity, Charles can tell that this particular bird is being weird, and he puts on an easy, charming smile and holds out a hand in the hopes that he'll perch.]

Aren't you a friendly one? And pretty, of course.
tendershepherd: (Unsure)

[personal profile] tendershepherd 2018-05-11 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Right.

[Sorey follows him outside, but now they have a new problem.]

Are you able to make fire? Ah, wait, I guess you wouldn't have asked for it if you could just make it yourself, huh?
whichcraft: that's kind of bullshit but i believe it (LISTEN ♚ like watching paint dry)

i perceive nothing but gratitude

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[So. Here's this other guy, probably a native, vaguely suspicious, but evidently someone who knows what's up. She also catches on to the accent immediately, which is curious because it's one she actually recognizes — not just Fantasy Faux-British or the guttural rasp of monsters like you might expect, but something both familiar and immediately placeable as (presumably) American. He's got that kind of look to him, too — blond hair, clothes that seem more suited to leisure than to battle.

Interesting. He's familiar with the same fairy tale she's thinking of, too — the reference to small children getting eaten is evidence enough of that.]

I'd be willing to bet that's kind of a moot point. It assumes the little kids can read to begin with.

[She tosses a sideways glance at one of the trees, just to make sure it's not winding up to smack her while she's momentarily distracted.]

Sad thing is, I could still name three people right here and now who I know would run right in and start eating the thing anyway without a second thought. Kinda makes you sad for humanity, doesn't it?
whenitsgone: (nobody can poison my feelings)

[personal profile] whenitsgone 2018-05-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I make shields. Selva makes the fire.

[ Warrick winces at the mention of his sister, especially after some of the painful things he saw in those pages that involved her. His grip on the book tightens momentarily. ]

whichcraft: the world might do me in but it's all right 'cause i'm with friends (SHADOW ♚ now you see me now you don't)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, he's gotten the bird's attention, all right; its head cocks slightly to the side as it gives Charles its full attention now, rearranging its wings with a ruffle of feathers and hopping slightly along the branch it's perched on to draw a little closer, either interested or as though it's trying to get a better look at him.

Conspicuously, though, it doesn't make any moves toward trying to hop onto his hand, despite looking directly at it. It keeps to the tree instead, watching him with scrutinizing intensity.]

( Oh....is he being mommed? It feels like he's being mommed. Whatever, he'll roll with the punches here. )

It's not like I've got something else to get this crap out of my mouth with. ( At least he obliges, removing his hand from his face area. ) But if you know what direction the water is in, I ain't gonna say no.

( There's that well, but this is the woods and directions are a fuck. )

[personal profile] parodeity 2018-05-11 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ a recognizable texan accent and casual clothes for sure do not match the theme. nor do his shades. but dave also doesn't seem too concerned - the woods are a bitch to navigate but he fully expects to be back in town in time for supper. or at least before anyone sends search parties. ]

Some people can't help themselves even if something is a bad idea. My best friend might try it out of curiosity...

[ john is kinda dumb, though. dave eyes summer without suspicion but with curiosity. ]

I don't know you. [ obvious, but - ] And there ain't enough people around that's normal.
tendershepherd: (Noticing Something)

[personal profile] tendershepherd 2018-05-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[The reaction doesn't go unnoticed by Sorey, who frowns in concern.]

Sounds like they're important to you. Was she in the book? Are you sure you want to burn it?

[Of course, he doesn't know what the book shows.]
observitude: (c - who me?)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hm. Disappointing, but he can't say it's very surprising.]

If you were hoping for a bribe, I'm afraid I don't have any food. Unless you're thinking of...robin me?

[do birds like puns, does this bird have a gun because tbh he's fully expecting to be shot now]
whenitsgone: (to stay quiet)

[personal profile] whenitsgone 2018-05-11 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
She's my sister. She was in the book.

[ Warrick pauses and then flips to a page that shows young Selva being attacked by a monster. It's quite bit and looks like it's made of a black substance, while she's a very small and very young girl. ]

[Directions sure are a fuck. So is interaction between useless suits of meat called bodies, especially when he's pretty sure this kid is just being a punk??? He'll have to proceed cautiously. Charles fidgets uncomfortably before gesturing for the other to follow and leading the way.]

I don't normally think about the names of the people at spit food on me, but since you did it on accident... I'm C.

[yeah this is caution]
whichcraft: and the ones that you wrecked won't take you back (FRAGILE ♚ you're the last beautiful girl)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that your go-to "meeting new people" approach? Just walk up to them and go "Hey, I don't know you"?

[IF HE'S WATCHING HER AND SHE'S WATCHING HIM THEN WHO'S DRIVING THE BUS or more importantly, who's watching for imminent witchery afoot, because that's really the real problem here, isn't it.

Absently, she checks in with her familiar, who has managed to find a bush that has yet to become particularly slap-happy, and nudges him into guard for anything that might try to approach. Not exactly the best security guard, but it might give her a few seconds of advance warning, at least, if trouble is on its way. Sometimes, a few seconds is the difference between living and dying.]

So, what. Where are you going with this, exactly? I don't know you, so...nice to meet you? This town ain't big enough 'fer the both of us? I'd like to escort you to the nearest twenty-four hour all-you-can-eat buffet? You don't know me, so...what?
whichcraft: high self-esteem is essential to a happy life (HELLA ♚ i'm the motherflippin')

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[My guy, this is a blue jay, and also that was terrible. Unfortunately, blue jays cannot in fact talk, which is probably a good thing because the nonstop outpouring of vitriol that a chattering blue jay would probably produce is decidedly unfit for polite ears, but regardless.]

Talk about a pun that's for the birds.

[The jay can't talk, but coincidentally, the redhead currently making her way over can. A little strange, that — it's almost (but not quite) like she just sort of...came out of nowhere, even though logically she must've been somewhere nearby to make an appearance that quickly.]
tendershepherd: (One Fear)

[personal profile] tendershepherd 2018-05-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
WHAT IS THAT?!

[Predictably, the sight of that thing distresses him, though he realizes it's just a picture in the book. But if that thing was real in Warrick's world...he's almost glad there aren't any hellions that look like that in his own world.]

Wait, so, this...happened? [His worried frown is back.] Is your sister okay?
parodeity: (Default)

[personal profile] parodeity 2018-05-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I can take you to the town itself - I was only goin' to "so, did you wake up in a well or what the fuck" since it's just been the lot of us since like two months back.

[ he gestures vaguely back the way he came from. ]

It's plenty big for more people, I just want to know why the place changed the status quo. Call it human curiosity.

( This interaction is definitely not weighing too heavily on Kanata's mind, outside of grumbling under his breath. "Disgusting," huh! You don't have to go and say it, even if it's true! One more step in the wrong direction and his minor, flustered embarrassment will turn into a harsh word or two!

In the meantime, let's say something dumb: )

What? That's a letter, not a name.
whenitsgone: (when the city sleeps)

[personal profile] whenitsgone 2018-05-12 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
No idea. All I know is it attacked the both of us. We're okay now, but it killed our mother.

[ He tries to manage a smile. It's a mere ghost of one and completely humorless. But really, could you expect anything else? ]
whichcraft: god the killers truly understand my soul (BURN ♚ on the back of a hurricane)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
...How many people are we talking, "the lot of us". I mean, a lot, obviously, but...

[The truth is, she'd gotten a bad feeling off of the town for the short time she'd spent there upon arrival, which is why she'd taken off for the forest about as quickly as she could. Too many unfamiliar buildings and landmarks, too many places for dangers to hide and get the drop on her. Which wasn't to say that a forest is really that much better, but at least she knows how to keep guard in a forest. It's easier to stay unobtrusive in wild terrain, no matter how much she might actually prefer the amenities of civilization proper.]

You make it sound like you ended up here by mistake. Or at least unexpectedly. Is it...like that for everyone here?
observitude: (c - mysophobia)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Weirdly, teleportation is a more common occurrence to the World he lived in than birds, even if access to it was...finicky. The response coming along with the sudden appearance isn't hostile, though, so he turns to face her with a comfortable slope in his shoulders instead of letting his instincts to tense up get the better of him. He doesn't...have a great track record with lady redheads.]

Are bad puns cardinal sins now?

About two months ago sixty people woke up in a well. There's like, forty-four of us left around I think? No one, like, died. They just disappeared. Which I'll admit doesn't sound all that much better?

[ hahahaha. ]

So, I know everyone in that group at least on sight even if we don't chat a lot.
whichcraft: murder, arson, and jaywalking, presumably (INNOCENT ♚ what can one little girl do)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on who you're talking to. Some people canary a grievance about anything.

[Interesting choice of phrase there, "can air(y) a grievance". But regardless, she's moving right along, coming to a pause a healthy distance away from Charles — close enough that it's reasonable speaking distance, but just neatly out of arm's reach, to where he'd have to take a step or two and lunge if he wanted to reach her.]

I think that's a blue jay, though, right?
whichcraft: the world might do me in but it's all right 'cause i'm with friends (SHADOW ♚ now you see me now you don't)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Shit.

[It's a soft enough curse that it's evidently not meant for Dave's benefit; outwardly, she's still watching him, but internally her mind is elsewhere, racing through implications and possibilities as she tries to gauge what this new information could possibly mean. It sounds like the start to a bad story: two months ago a ragtag group of misfits woke up in a well, and —

...Wait a minute.]

How the fuck did sixty people fit in a well?
