Test Drive Meme 2.

These are the mem’ries that last.
These are the mem’ries that will never pass.
And time waits for no one.
It’s gone in a flash.
And only the mem’ries will last.

Prompt 1:

he forest looms, uninviting and full of menace, an unwelcoming place for sure. Time to go explore! It isn't as though there's anywhere else to go, now that you've looked around the Town.

The trees whack at you with branches that have far too much mobility for normal trees, strange and mutated animals watch from the shadows and boughs, and there’s the constant, constant sense of being watched --

But eventually, nonetheless, you’ll come across a small house in the forest. It sticks out like a sore thumb, bright and colorful, which is probably the first warning that something is way off, and it’s...covered in candy. It’s a candy house! It looks delicious.

(It’s empty, too, not a single soul in it, without even furniture, but everything is otherwise edible and utterly delicious.)

But if you eat the candy? You’re going to have a terrible, overwhelming urge to do one of two things:

  • Fight the first person you see
  • Kiss the first person you see

Unfortunate.

Prompt 2:

he problem with a Town like this is that now that color is starting to return, bit by bit? You never really know when color’s going to come back -- or disappear. Maybe you’ve made a delightful, delicious sandwich from handmade bread and tomatoes and deer meat, all of which have color now… and then suddenly, when taking a bite, you get only the taste of ash and bread and tomato as the deer meat loses color.

Also, someone probably died for that color to fade away. Alarming!

Or maybe you’re walking along when suddenly your makeshift clothing is a hideous mix-match of colors; it had seemed fine when it was all grey and colorless!

Or perhaps, even worse, you’re walking out of a house when suddenly, the flowerbed in front of it has full color, bright and maybe a little blinding after so much monochrome. Damn those color mechanics.

Prompt 3:

he quest seems simple, on the Quest Post:

Quest 33:
Feed the Cockatrice.
Requirements: 2 of any color

Key word, of course, is seems. First, you have to find the cockatrice. Maybe grab someone to drag into the woods with you, since there needs to be at least two of you. Time to stomp through the woods in search of the elusive cockatrice.

Of course, once you find it, the quest...looks a bit harder. The monster hisses, ready to turn anyone who approaches to stone, as cockatrice tend to do. What do you even feed that thing? How will you get it to take it without getting stoned up? There are so many questions.

At least the stone will wear off...eventually… if you’re unlucky enough to get petrified.

Prompt 4:

ut hey, you did it! You fed the cockatrice, it seemed satisfied, and now you can go fetch your reward from your home. It must be something amazing, with the work that you put in.

The only change in your home, though, is what looks like a...picture book. It's got a colorful cover (in your character's color shade), and has their name on the cover, so it definitely belongs to them.

And when they flip it open, it's clearly full of pictures scribbled in, as if drawn in scribbly crayon. Unlike the rest of the Town, this book is fully colorful, every shade of the rainbow in those crayon strokes... which depict, page by page, your character's worst moments in their life. Every single last horrific experience or tragic moment -- it's all there, in colorful, cute children's drawings.

Congratulations!

[He doesn't see many birds in the World. That place's version of cats was far more common than anything else, and while he knows the reasoning behind that, he can't help but to wonder now what it would be like with creatures like this around day to day. Better? Worse? Oh well. Even in his unfamiliarity, Charles can tell that this particular bird is being weird, and he puts on an easy, charming smile and holds out a hand in the hopes that he'll perch.]

Aren't you a friendly one? And pretty, of course.
whichcraft: the world might do me in but it's all right 'cause i'm with friends (SHADOW ♚ now you see me now you don't)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, he's gotten the bird's attention, all right; its head cocks slightly to the side as it gives Charles its full attention now, rearranging its wings with a ruffle of feathers and hopping slightly along the branch it's perched on to draw a little closer, either interested or as though it's trying to get a better look at him.

Conspicuously, though, it doesn't make any moves toward trying to hop onto his hand, despite looking directly at it. It keeps to the tree instead, watching him with scrutinizing intensity.]
observitude: (c - who me?)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hm. Disappointing, but he can't say it's very surprising.]

If you were hoping for a bribe, I'm afraid I don't have any food. Unless you're thinking of...robin me?

[do birds like puns, does this bird have a gun because tbh he's fully expecting to be shot now]
whichcraft: high self-esteem is essential to a happy life (HELLA ♚ i'm the motherflippin')

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-11 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[My guy, this is a blue jay, and also that was terrible. Unfortunately, blue jays cannot in fact talk, which is probably a good thing because the nonstop outpouring of vitriol that a chattering blue jay would probably produce is decidedly unfit for polite ears, but regardless.]

Talk about a pun that's for the birds.

[The jay can't talk, but coincidentally, the redhead currently making her way over can. A little strange, that — it's almost (but not quite) like she just sort of...came out of nowhere, even though logically she must've been somewhere nearby to make an appearance that quickly.]
observitude: (c - mysophobia)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Weirdly, teleportation is a more common occurrence to the World he lived in than birds, even if access to it was...finicky. The response coming along with the sudden appearance isn't hostile, though, so he turns to face her with a comfortable slope in his shoulders instead of letting his instincts to tense up get the better of him. He doesn't...have a great track record with lady redheads.]

Are bad puns cardinal sins now?
whichcraft: murder, arson, and jaywalking, presumably (INNOCENT ♚ what can one little girl do)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on who you're talking to. Some people canary a grievance about anything.

[Interesting choice of phrase there, "can air(y) a grievance". But regardless, she's moving right along, coming to a pause a healthy distance away from Charles — close enough that it's reasonable speaking distance, but just neatly out of arm's reach, to where he'd have to take a step or two and lunge if he wanted to reach her.]

I think that's a blue jay, though, right?
observitude: (c - come with me)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[This is a good, respectable distance. He likes this distance. He wouldn't object to taking this distance out to dinner.]

Oh, most likely. I haven't actually seen one in person, never mind this close. It certainly is blue.

[Yeah, he's done with that nonsense. Topping canary would just end up with him being incredibly pretentious.]
whichcraft: god the killers truly understand my soul (BURN ♚ on the back of a hurricane)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Really stands out in the middle of all this gray.

[She frowns a little, though, flicking a glance at him with evident curiosity.]

How've you seen them, then? You mean like in books or something?
observitude: (c - would you kindly)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Some. Mostly the internet, though.

[boy he loves the internet]
whichcraft: that's kind of bullshit but i believe it (LISTEN ♚ like watching paint dry)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yeah, I guess that's how it is, one minute you're just looking for some random fact on Wikipedia and the next thing you know you're three hours and forty pages down the rabbit hole.

[Presumably he is not the only one who loves the internet.]
observitude: (c - on the contrary)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that is a relief. Scarlett hated those times with a passion and made sure he knew it, but this girl Got It.]

Only forty pages? You must be better at rabbit holing than I am, it feels like I never find things interesting enough to linger on for too long. Tumblr is a trash heap, but there have been photography blogs with good aesthetics. That's probably the most common place I've seen them.
whichcraft: lord deliver me for i know exactly what i will do (PENSIVE ♚ i am surrounded by idiots)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't find things interesting enough, huh.

[She tips her head, a little birdlike, and regards him thoughtfully.]

Okay, so what kind of stuff do you get interested in? Photographs, what else?
observitude: (c - pastel petal)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, a wide variety. Art in general. Philosophy. History. I was planning to be a doctor, so I often got stuck in ruts of Latin that Wikipedia had no real information on.

[kinks, anime, whacky causes of death -- you know. stuff that won't make him seem as dignified.]
whichcraft: that's kind of bullshit but i believe it (LISTEN ♚ like watching paint dry)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't really think doctors did a lot of looking stuff up on the internet. But I guess I don't really think a lot about doctors in general, so what do I know?

[She shrugs.]

What kind of doctor?
observitude: (c - gently rise and softly call)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well. He hadn't actually gotten anywhere close to that goal, so. Shrug. Professional internet bum it is.]

Psychiatry, maybe. The idea changed a lot, but I kept coming back to that one.
whichcraft: god the killers truly understand my soul (BURN ♚ on the back of a hurricane)

[personal profile] whichcraft 2018-05-12 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure you need a lot more than WebMD for that.

[Still, that's valuable information she'll be shelving away for later. Why it's valuable or what she might do with it, she doesn't actually know yet, but there's an association drawn now between this guy and psychiatry, and if he likes psychiatry then that means he might like to try to pick her apart, read her actions, interpret her motives.

In short, she'll have to be that much more careful that this guy only ever sees what she wants him to see, because more likely than not, he'll be watching.]
observitude: (c - good night and joy)

[personal profile] observitude 2018-05-12 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[What kind of Observer would he be if he wasn't watching?]

Of course, of course! I was working on applications to medical universities, really. My grades weren't suffering too much either, if I remember correctly.
